No bar

Tomei posesión do meu posto na oficina de Correos e Telégrafos da vila. Semella ser un lugar tranquilo e cun bo ambiente de traballo entre compañeiros. O traballo nestes días non é nada estresante, enviar uns cantos telegramas ao Goberno Civil e recibir outros tantos de emigrados para as súas familias, aínda que ten o seu aquel por ser novidade para min.

Cando salgo do traballo tento facer vida social cos nativos da vila e para iso percorro as prazas e rúas dando longos paseos e saudando sorrindo a cada persoa coa que me topo. O único que conseguín foi que me devolvesen o sorriso unhas ducias de veces e que me falasen do tempo un par delas.

Decidín mudar de estratexia e senteime nun banco da praza Principal a observar o que fan os vilegos. Sorprendentemente case que todos, logo de dar un paseo baixo a sombra dos castiñeiros de indias, entran nunha casa cun letreiro na porta. O letreiro pon Bar Principal. Alá fun.

Resulta que o espacio habitual da cidadanía local son os bares, descubrín máis noutras rúas. Son lugares públicos onde a xente bebe, xoga nas máquinas comecartos, merca tabaco, ve o fútbol na televisión,... pero sobre todo falase e estase con outra xente.

Alí, entre as cascaras de cacahuetes, cóntanse as penurias da escaseza de sardiña, as alegrías de ver o millo medrado, as indiferencias ante o repuntamento do prezo do barril de petróleo,...

Chamoume especial atención algúns vilegos que despois do xantar xúntanse en grupos de catro e ao caloriño duns cafés, edulcorados cun estraño líquido amarelo, séntase nunha mesa a xogar ás cartas proferindo grandes gritos e risotadas. E alí pasan toda a tarde.

Algúns parroquianos usan estes establecementos como lugares para deixar cousas ou recados a terceiras persoas. Cunha función semellente á dun apartado de correos colectivo onde o carteiro é o propietario da taberna.

Pero o realmente abraiante é ver como entre os barrís de Ribeiro e a máquina do tabaco. o alcalde, o cura, o dono da conserveira e demais poderes locais deciden que facer homenaxear a D’alata.
